Grade Level: 6th Grade

Topic: Fractions

Objective: Students will be able to add and subtract fractions with like denominators.

Materials:

• Whiteboard and markers
• Fraction tiles or blocks
• Worksheets with addition and subtraction problems
• Calculator (optional)

Introduction (5 minutes):

• Review prior knowledge of fractions and ask students to share their understanding of adding and subtracting fractions.
• Introduce the topic of adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators and explain why it is important in real-life situations.
• Provide a brief overview of the lesson objectives and agenda.

Instruction (25 minutes):

• Model adding and subtracting fractions with like denominators using fraction tiles or blocks on the whiteboard.
• Provide examples of different fractions with like denominators and demonstrate how to add and subtract them step by step.
• Ask students to practice on their own or in pairs using fraction tiles or blocks.
